Biography
Kerri Menchaca was born in Fort Worth, Texas. At an early age she developed her style in realism under the guidance of Fort Worth artist Dennis Blagg. She then earned degrees in Art History and Studio Art, with a minor in Geology, from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, she lived and worked in Denver, CO, before returning to Texas. Over the years, she has called nearly every major Texas city home and spends her free time exploring the deserts of the American Southwest and the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico
Menchaca draws inspiration from her travels, using photographs and color studies as source material for her studio-based oil paintings. Her exploration of light, atmosphere, and terrain leads naturally toward realism as she seeks to reveal how color and shadow shape our sense of place within the Texas landscape.
An active lecturer, Menchaca has presented talks and demonstrations at the Sid Richardson Museum, The Museum of the Big Bend, and Texas Christian University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Southwest and Colorado and is included in the collections of The Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine, Sul Ross State University, and the University of Texas at Arlington.
